Pedro & Katrina, had the wedding they had always dreamed of.  This wedding was at the Maui, Kaanapali Hyatt.
The setting was perfect! They celebrated in style and elegance along with their friends and family.

As they shared about their experience, both of them agreed that one of their best decisions as they prepared for their special day was to hire a professional videographer to film with them. The venue was incredible and they wanted to be able to relive their wedding celebration time after time.

Almost every wedding planner highly recommends having someone with a video camera to record the wedding. However, just because someone has a video camera doesn’t mean that the equipment is professional quality and that the operator really knows how to use it. For that, you need a real professional that has the training and experience to record, edit, and produce a quality video product.

Imagine that you’ve reserved a premier destination wedding location. You and your partner are giddy with excitement, and your friends are shaking their heads in amazement. The actual wedding location has the most spectacular backdrop, and the reception and banquet facilities are beyond your wildest dreams.

Then imagine that your friend who was supposed to take some photos and a few videos shows up with an antiquated camera with scratches on the lens and a battery pack that won’t keep a charge.

The only wedding memories you’ll have are the ones you have in your head. Your plans to share images of your wedding with your friends and family who couldn’t attend are shattered. Your wedding will still be beautiful, but you’ll be disappointed at not having the photos and video you had wanted.

That’s why you need to hire a professional. You want someone who has state of the art equipment that is in perfect operating condition and a backup camera just in case something happens. You’ll also be pleased to know that your videographer not only knows how to use every capability of the camera, but is also a very creative artist.
It takes a special eye to see the possibilities for each segment. Knowing which angles are best, what kind of filters should be used, and selecting the best lens settings to get the right results are skills that you’ll find only in a professional camera operator.

So don’t settle for mediocre video skills and equipment. Take some time to find the best possible videographer you can find so that you’ll have the results you truly desire. You will be very glad that you did!

As soon as my husband and I decided on Maui I googled Maui Videographers and came across Jordan and the Hi Focused website. I was thrilled when the Hyatt presented them as a preferred vendor in the wedding planning guide! After convincing my husband that Jordan’s footage was some of the best I had seen and this would be completely worth it; I contacted Jordan to book him and it was one of the best decisions we made. Jordan was very communicative with us through emails and phone calls while we worked out details. We had a call with him a few days before where he reviewed details of our wedding day and provided us with his professional advice on what would work best for our schedule and location. Jordan completely blew me away on the day of the wedding. He and his team arrived early and ready to work almost immediately. Jordan was really great with our photographer team and was great at communicating what he was doing and why. He helped put me at ease and his team really helped ease my husband’s stage fright. Every shot was well thought out and coordinated and the footage was amazing! We booked the team for 4 hours and we stayed right on track the entire time – in large part due to Jordan and his team.We fell in love with our wedding trailer! And we just received our documentary footage and raw footage package this week. The packaging was secure and very nice looking as well! We loved loved loved our wedding video!

Drone Cinematography

Drone Cinematography has changed so much over the years. I remember starting just about two and a half years ago with a GoPro attached to my Phantom 2 drone flying my drone around Maui, Hawaii. We also had to solder wires to connect it to a transmitter so we could see what we were filming, this is called first person view, FPV. Now drones have cameras already integrated with the drone. For FPV just plug your smart phone or tablet into your controller and you can see what you are shooting and have full control over your camera settings as well as drone settings and various intelligent flight modes. The intelligent flight modes are amazing too! When I had my Phantom two there was really just 3 flight modes now there are many many more. You can do tripod mode for steady slow controlled shots, you can do tap to flight, simply tap on your screen where to fly to, you can do active track, pick a moving object and it will follow it, all pretty amazing and useful too! The quality on the cameras are getting more and more professional too. For me as a professional filmmaker I want the highest quality possible and the current Phantom 4 Pro has amazing quality. It has an impressive 1” sensor, that shoots 4k resolution at 60 frames per second with great clarity and high performance in low light conditions. This is truly a professional camera that can fly. On top of the ease of use, set up time, camera quality and flight modes the Phantom 4 Pro drone has forward and back sensors for obstacle avoidance. I tested them by flying the drone straight at me full speed where it stopped about 6 feet away!  The batteries last about 40% longer too. The Phantom 2 with a Go Pro and FPV was about $2000 now, 3 years later you can get the Phantom 4 Pro with so much more for $1599. Pretty awesome!

With the power and abilities of today’s drones, come regulations. As a drone pilot you are either a hobbyist or a professional. If you make any money from flying your drone you need to get a Small Unmanned Aircraft Pilots license called a Part 107. It’s a multiple choice test, that test extensive knowledge on weather, aeronautical knowledge and reading sectional charts (maps for pilots). It’s no easy test and takes time to study. If you are a hobbyist all you need to do is register your drone with the FAA and of course follow their guidelines.

For me as a wedding filmmaker, here on Maui, the use of drones really add a high production value to my films. It gives the viewer a perspective on the location like nothing else can, especially videoing such scenic wedding venues as we have here in Maui, Hawaii. Flying my drone has given me a renewed appreciation in the beautiful place we all live. My last drone film Drone Maui was featured on KHON News and The Down Town LA Film Festival.

So in a few short years, drones have revolutionized the industry in so many ways. Drones give us a new view of the world that we never had before. With technology advancing so fast and drones still being realitvly new, I’m excited for what the future holds for these modern filming marvels.

Featuring footage from Juneau, Anchorage and Ketchikan,
it was a family vacation so I didn’t want to spend a ton of time droning
and my drone was giving me issues.  Despite the GPS and battery errors I still
took it the furthest I ever have almost a mile and a half away to fly it over the Mendenhall Glacier.
It was really risky taking it that far with the issues it’s been having
but it made it back safe and the footage was well worth the risk!

My wife and I were married on Maui at Sugar Beach Events of Hawaii in July of 2016. Selecting HIFocused as our cinematography team was one of the easiest decisions that we had to make. My sister had her wedding on Maui in 2014, and she chose Jordan and his team. After seeing the quality of their film, we knew that our search was going to be a short one. We contacted HIFocused and they were awesome from day one! Throughout our wedding planning, we spoke to Jordan over the phone and via email. He was always professional and had great advice for us. As we approached the wedding day, he checked in to see if there were any last minute updates. He wanted to make sure that we had the best product possible. On the wedding day, his team showed up early to capture the details of the beautiful venue. Three videographers were on site filming throughout the entire event. The drone made an appearance overhead during the setup and the celebration, but they parked it during the ceremony so as not to distract from the special moment. One of the things that impressed us the most was Jordan’s ability to work with the photographers. He knew when to take a step back and allow them to get “the shot”. After seeing the finished video, he didn’t miss anything. After the wedding, he contacted us and asked if we had any suggestions regarding music and specific shots for the film. We really felt like it was our video, and it represented our special day perfectly.When the editing was complete, Jordan sent us a note that the video had been uploaded to Vimeo. The ability to share it with friends and family was fantastic. Soon after, a package arrived in the mail that contained three things.
1) A USB flash drive with the seven minute video, and the longer 40 minute video that documented the entire day.
2) A hard drive with all of the raw footage from the entire day. The hard drive also had backup copies of the two videos.
3) Chocolate!
Working with Jordan and his team, I would recommend HIFocused to anyone planning a special event in Hawaii. There are plenty of HIFocused videos out there on Vimeo and YouTube to view. Once you fall in love with them, give Jordan a call. You won’t be disappointed!

After watching tons of wedding videos from different videographers on Maui, we knew we wanted HI Focused to capture our big day. We booked them through our wedding planner, but Jordan reached out to us to provide tips and to make sure he understood what we wanted out of our films. We absolutely loved the drone shots they had done for other weddings, so that was our only major request….and they certainly delivered!! Jordan was so easy to work with and we were super impressed that he finished our films (trailer and short film) way earlier than expected. When we watched the films, we were so overcome by all of the happy emotions that it brought back for us. From the heartfelt music to the breathtaking drone shots to the way he told the story of our special day…everything was just perfection!! A few of our family members and friends commented that they didn’t even realize that Jordan and his team captured so much footage because they were never in the way and never in anyone’s face with a camera.
